Located in the sunny town of LaConner, Washington, our dock is on the Swinomish Channel and offers over 150 feet of moorage with water and power year round. The Clubhouse, which is available for rental, and our reciprocal dock are within easy walking distance of the town. LaConner has many unusual shops, boutiques, art galleries, museums, very fine restaurants and excellent hotel accommodations. Because of our premier location, boaters find the Swinomish Yacht Club a haven when traveling between the lower Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands. Our club has one of the largest rosters of reciprocal clubs in both Washington and British Columbia, which allows us to exchange moorage between member clubs. With the participation of more than 80 clubs, diligent use can substantially offset the cost of annual dues. Our club is also an active supporter of R.B.A.W., the Recreation Boaters Association of Washington. R.B.A.W. is the only organization representing boaters political interest in Olympia. Although personal membership is optional, we do encourage members to join. Our club also participates R.B.A.W. membership at the Club level.
The object for which this club is formed shall be to promote yachting and marine events designed to stimulate public interest in yachting.
The Swinomish Yacht Club was chartered in 1937. Milo Moore, then Mayor of LaConner, was our first Commodore. The original site for the club consisted of a watchmen's house and two floating docks in front of Pioneer Park. Meetings were held at the Planter Hotel in downtown LaConner since there was no clubhouse. During World War II, the club was relatively inactive, but a few avid boaters restarted it after the war ended. The property where the clubhouse now stands was leased in 1974 and the clubhouse was built the following year. The LaConner Marina now houses the club's reciprocal dock, and a major clubhouse remodel was completed in 2000. Our Club was formed to promote safe boating practices and sponsor marine events designed to stimulate interest and family involvement in boating. Over the years, our membership has continued to embrace a broad spectrum of individuals and families that share this objective. |
