Who we are

The Swinomish Yacht Club is located in La Conner, Washington. Although formed prior to WWII in 1939 (Milo Moore, then Mayor of La Conner, was our first Commodore) it was officially chartered in 1972. Milo Moore, then Mayor of La Conner, was our first Commodore. For first-hand accounts of the yacht club history, see SYCHistory.

Our Club was formed to promote safe boating practices and sponsor marine events designed to stimulate interest and family involvement in boating. Our membership embraces a broad spectrum of individuals and families that share this objective. Vacations and regular boating weekends are safer and more fun because always a number of our club members are close enough to contract if the need arises or to plan events and cruises with that are not not part of the regular SYC event schedule.

Because of our premier location, our club has one of the largest rosters of reciprocal clubs in both Washington and British Columbia.  If you are unfamiliar with reciprocity, it is an agreement between clubs to exchange moorage.  With the participation of more than 75 clubs, diligent use of reciprocity can substantially offset the cost of annual dues.

Swinomish Yacht Club is also an active supporter of the Recreational Boaters Association of Washington, also known as RBAW.  RBAW is currently the only organization representing boater’s political interest in Olympia.  Although personal membership is  optional, we do encourage members to join.  Our club also participates in RBAW membership at the Club level.

Our current event schedule is at 15 club sponsored events, and dozens of other “un-events” through out the year. Most events are in the north Salish Sea and San Juan Islands. Some of the best and most beautiful cruising areas in the world!  In addition to on the water events, we also have a large clubhouse that we use for large gatherings, and rentals for weddings and receptions.
The clubhouse is available at a reduced rate for members

The town of La Conner is a beautiful historic town that has many small shops, but also great dinning and many events through out the year, such as the Tulip Festival.  Crowds gather for the SYC boat parades on opening day and again around Christmas. Along with the shops there is world class boating facilities that can haul, repair  or do regular scheduled maintenance.
